HEALTH BENEFITS OF BUFFALO VS. COW’S MILK

HEALTH BENEFITS OF BUFFALO VS. COW’S MILK

Both cow’s milk and buffalo’s milk are good for health and they also have health benefits. Fresh buffalo milk can be stored for a long time and has high peroxidase activity while cow’s milk should be consumed fresh in a day or two. The health benefits of both cow’s milk and buffalo’s milk are as follows:

Supports bone health

Both cow and buffalo milk are rich sources of calcium. Both contain essential minerals for the growth and development of bones.
Milk contains casein-derived peptides that may help increase bone density, bone health, and bone formation, along with preventing the risk of bone loss and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease in which the bones become weak and the risk of fractures increases due to low bone density.
Casein in buffalo milk accounts for about 89% of the total protein content, and in cow’s milk it is 80%.

Antioxidant properties

With high bioactive compounds, vitamins and minerals, milk is an antioxidant agent that can fight and neutralize free radicals that cause harmful effects on the body.

The fat-soluble vitamins in milk- Vitamins A and E have antioxidant properties, which enables them to help fight many diseases.
The antioxidant capacity in buffalo milk is between 56 and 58% and that in cow’s milk is about 40-42%. Buffalo milk contains high monounsaturated polysaccharides, which give it credit for being a powerful antioxidant.

Diabetic-friendly and improves heart health

Beta-lactoglobulin, a whey protein in buffalo milk, helps reduce high blood pressure levels. Beta-lactoglobulin in buffalo milk inhibits angiotensin-converting enzymes that increase blood pressure by constricting blood vessels. The high potassium in buffalo milk controls blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Buffalo milk may also be preferred by people with diabetes due to its high unsaturated fatty acids and low cholesterol concentration and has been primarily associated with improved HDL and heart health.

Other health benefits

Low cholesterol levels in buffalo milk can be helpful for people suffering from PCOS, hypertension, kidney diseases and obesity.

Downsides of Cow milk and Buffalo milk

It is worth noting that the amount of fat, calories and lactose in buffalo milk is higher as compared to cow’s milk. People considering weight loss or a low-fat diet should choose cow’s milk instead of buffalo’s milk. In addition, people with lactose intolerance can use cow’s milk or other lactose-free milk alternatives. Some studies suggest that buffalo milk may be an allergy-friendly option for people with cow’s milk allergy (CMA). Although some studies disagree, more research is needed on the harms of buffalo milk
In some cases, the casein, alpha, and beta-lactoglobulin in cow’s milk is the body’s protein-immunoglobulin (Igs) or bovine serum albumin, especially in children and infants. Show allergies. Some studies show similar IgE-mediated allergies with buffalo milk, suggesting that it may be possible due to cross-reactivity or sensitivity between the two types of milk.
